Less than two months after winning a national award for The Balmoral Fillet, John Ross Jr has announced that the product has been shortlisted once again, this time for the Great British Food Awards 2016.
The award-winning product has been shortlisted in the Smoked Fish category and will now be judged by the three-time Great British Menu winner, TV personality and author, Richard Corrigan.
The Balmoral Fillet will vie for first place against other renowned smokehouses including Isle of Ewe Smokehouse, Uig Lodge and Arbroath Smokies.
On The Balmoral Fillet’s growing success Christopher Leigh, Managing Director at John Ross Jr, comments: “We are flattered by the recognition it continues to receive and are delighted that we have raised the standard when it comes to producing other, more exclusive smoked salmon products. The Balmoral Fillet is the crown of the salmon which, when combined with up to 28 hours of smoking in traditional brick kilns, delivers a tender, succulent and rich taste. It’s the fillet steak equivalent of smoked salmon and we’re delighted with the international following it now has.”
The Balmoral Fillet beat Loch Fyne Oysters and Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group to claim the coveted Fish and Seafood Award at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2016 earlier this year. It was selected by Philip Schofield and Amanda Holden as their favourite smoked salmon in the Christmas taste test on ITV’s This Morning and Square Meal magazine didn’t hold back in its review, in which it used expletives to describe how it was ‘smoked salmon on a whole other level’.
The winner will be announced in the October issue of Great British Food magazine, which is on sale 2 September.
